Sunday 29th July – windsurf ** Point Clear – windy and wild - cloudy
F2 Wave 264 with Naish Nalu 4.25 and 24 cm. fin.
24.60 knot max., 21.81 knot ave., 0.00 knot hour, 0.00 knot mile, 9.40 km.,
7.88 knot alpha.
We decided against staying the night in our van on Point Clear seafront as
a bit breezy so went to a sheltered spot we have been before and had a walk
to the River Colne. A lovely quiet night but woke to grey skies with rain
so not in any hurry to get back to the beach. After relaxing breakfast, we
drove the ten miles back to Point Clear being first to arrive. We parked at
the far carpark to start with and it was miserable, raining with 30/40 mph
onshore winds (SSW) so was not looking good for a sail. Ian Clarke arrived
and we agreed it would be better to park on the Green so moved there. This
is a nice direction here dead onshore but with no huge shore break but
still didn’t look very inviting, I hate sailing in the rain but Ian was
brave enough to give it a try going for 4m on his wave board. Nobody else
seemed very keen to go out. Ian was way overpowered making it next to
impossible to gybe so after a couple of runs he came ashore debating
whether to pack up! A few more arrived and the rain stopped so I decided to
rig my 4.25, a sail I have only used once before! The trouble is it is an
old sail and an even older boom so I am not keen to go out when its wild,
perhaps I will have to treat myself to some small kit but very really use
it! I left the beach at 1.15 on a wave board, will I couldn’t believe it
either! It would have been fun if I could actually sheet the sail in! You
could sail along the wave which in places were nice but gybing was next to
impossible so overpowdered. I had a nice chat with Shaun Cook had one more
run and decided to call it a day while I was still in one piece!
Still a good weekend and was pleased with yesterday when I was sailing with
several good slalom/speedsailers in attendance but I acquitted myself quite
well getting the top speed I think and only being beaten by a knot on the
average considering they are all on top of the range 2018 kit!
So a great weekend and perhaps even more wind tomorrow but thankfully a
more manageable strength:)
